Patrolman Frank Holmes was shot and killed as he attempted to arrest a burglary suspect.

Patrolman Holmes responded to the Union Hotel in reference to a suspicious person complaint. When Patrolman Holmes arrived he located a subject and ordered him to surrender. The subject drew a revolver and shot Patrolman Holmes before fleeing the area. Patrolman Holmes later succumbed to his wounds at 2220 hours on July 30, 1902.

The man was arrested, charged with murder, tried and acquitted.

Patrolman Holmes was survived by his wife.
