Trooper Johnny Bowman was stabbed to death at 4:18 a.m. when an unidentified male attacked him at his home in the 8900 block of Patterson Place in Manassas, Virginia.

A suspect was identified but was never charged due to a lack of evidence.

Trooper Bowman, who also served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, had been with the agency for 5 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter, who went on to become a police officer.

I didn't know you. I was just a girl when you passed. But my Father was Manassas Police, and I remember his heart was heavy for your family's loss, and his extended band of brothers' loss.
I'm in my forties now. My Dad passed away 5 years ago, but even in one of our last phone conversations he mentioned you. He asked if I remembered your name and I promised I would never forget.
