David Ernest Enzbrenner

Sergeant David Enzbrenner was shot and killed in an unprovoked attack while assisting a code enforcement officer serve a nuisance order at a home near the intersection of 12th. and Division Streets shortly after 4:00 pm.

A person unrelated to the order suddenly approached and opened fire without warning, killing Sergeant Enzbrenner. The man then committed suicide. It is believed the man held a grudge against law enforcement officers because his father was serving a life sentence without parole in Louisiana.

Sergeant Enzbrenner had served with the Atchison Police Department for 24 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Thanks for all the great comments. It is nice to know people care and comforting even after it has been almost four years and I am just now reading these comments. I miss my man SO MUCH! It is always interesting to read others' takes on someone so close. You sometimes don't realize the ripples of one's affect on others outside your small world. He did make a ALL he did. His girls are well and know how to appreciate life (even w/out him) but they got off to a Super start with a SuperDave dad. I am thankful and blessed to have had him as long as we did and we are better because of him and our God who gets us through this crazy world. He was put here "FOR GOOD" and we can't wait to SEE HIM AGAIN! Will LOVE you FOREVER!
