Trooper Jeffrey Werda was killed in an automobile accident while responding to assist Saginaw County deputies who were involved in a pursuit at approximately 1:30 am.

Several minutes after he notified dispatchers he was responding to assist, a motorist called 911 to report finding a crashed patrol car on Birch Run Road, just west of Moorish Road in Birch Run Township. Trooper Werda's patrol car had rolled over several times and he was ejected from the vehicle.

He was transported to Covenant HealthCare Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Trooper Werda had served with the Michigan State Police for 11 years.

Jeff, I so wish we could sit and talk just once more. So much is on my mind that I wish I could hear your response to. We spent four days in DC with kenz, Zach and Alyssa. The wall was the most peaceful place in the entire city, even surrounded by thousands of people and stories, I kept finding myself back there, sitting, watching, remembering and praying. During our car ride there I kept praying for a sign from you while we were there but the minute I stepped out of the car I knew I didn't need one. We could feel you there and our hearts were content. So many people there with so many stories of their own...so many children left without a parent. So many parents left without their child.

There have been so many changes in the last two years. I just wish you weren't one of them. I wish we were going to mackinaw for the 4th and sitting in the back, drinking your gross Bud Light. Please continue the watch over your parents, Tammy, your children and brothers and sisters. You must be busy up there, still protecting and serving. Keep watch over all these nieces and nephews...we depend on you to keep them safe now. :)
