Officer William Smith was struck and killed by a Northern Pacific Railroad freight train while standing on a crossing. He was watching two southbound trains when he was struck by a train that was backing up on the track he was on.

Officer Smith was survived by his wife and daughter.

Mr. Smith: I am a Motorcycle Officer in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. May 10-12, 2012 I escorted some 300+ bicycles 240 miles into the nations capital as a member of LAW ENFORCEMENT UNITED. I was wearing a wrist band with your name on it. I pray you are at PEACE and know that you are thought of this day. I wish it was possible to locate family for you... GOD BLESS YOU sir...
