Officer Rodney Holder was killed in a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Sayles Boulevard and South 13th Street while attempting to stop a speeder.

Officer Holder was in pursuit of a speeder when a car pulled out in front of him causing a collision. Officer Holder was ejected from his bike and collided with a parked vehicle. He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Officer Holder had served with the Abilene Police Department for 28 years and is survived by his wife, daughter, son, two granddaughters, and one sister.

Officer Holder, Clearly you made an impact on the people around you. I found Officer Rickers' remembrance of his time with you particularly touching. To have another man say that he'd like his son, his grandsons to be like another man should say everything about you that needs to be said. I cannot wait to meet you and shake your hand in heaven for standing your watch and doing your time. May God bless your family and may the memory of all you had to give on this earth continue to endure in the hearts and minds of seasoned vets, the new recruits, and the civilians you bravely served.
