Constable Walter Reed was shot and killed as he and several other officers raided a restaurant whose owner was suspected of bootlegging, smuggling and extortion.

The suspect opened fire on Constable Reed as he entered the front door, killing him. The city marshal who was accompany Constable Reed returned fire and killed the suspect.

Constable Reed had served with the agency for three years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 100th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
