Sergeant John Lockhart succumbed to a head injury sustained five days earlier.

He was responding to a burglary call at a local drugstore when he slipped on ice and struck his head on a frame-brace on the top of his patrol car. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage five days later and passed away.

Sergeant Lockhart had served with the agency for 17 years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 75th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
