Deputy Marshal Clyde Calhoun was shot and killed in Klawock, Alaska, by a man had just arrested for rape. When he allowed the suspect to gather some belongings from his boat the man emerged with a rifle and shot him in the back.

The suspect fled but later committed suicide when he was surrounded by a posse.

Deputy Marshal Calhoun had served with the agency for three years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 92nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 92 years.
