Special Agents Michael Weston, Chad Michael, and Forrest Leamon were killed in a helicopter accident in Afghanistan.

The agents were returning from a counter-narcotics operation when the military helicopter they were riding in crashed. Seven military service members were also killed.

Special Agent Weston was a major in the Marine Corps Reserve. He served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps in a variety of capacities, including Judge Advocate General (JAG) Officer, Platoon Commander, and, most recently, Operations Officer 4th Combat Engineer Battalion. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and was deployed to Iraq, Norway, and the Panama Canal.

Special Agent Weston, a member of the Kabul Country Office, was a member of the Richmond District Office for the majority of his six year career with DEA until volunteering to join the Kabul Country Office in August 2009. He is survived by his wife, his parents, and his brother.

I had the distinct honor of knowing and working with Mike Weston. I met Mike during pre-deployment training for Afghanistan in Wyoming in 2009 and was in-country with him.
Although I did not know Mike well, I think of him often. Mike arrived in Afghanistan and immediately went to work conducting operations in Western Afghanistan...I heard often of Mike's success out West. He was definitely the leader of the DEA pack there.....
I completed my tour of Afghanistan in 2011 and have moved on to other assignments. I have two small sons that I speak to often about Mike Weston. I hope as they grow older they will understand how talented Mike was and what he sacrificed for them and other Americans. I took them to Arlington this past Memorial Day to take a little time for reflection at Mike's resting place. I just pray that in my poor attempt to tell them about Mike Weston, I done him justice.
Rest easy brother....other DEA Special Agents and Marines picked up your sword and carry on.
