Benjamin Manning Owens

Policeman Ben Owens was shot and killed during a raid on a whiskey still near Murrells Inlet.

Federal officers with Policeman Owens arrested five men at the still. All five suspects were charged with Policeman Owens' murder and placed in the county jail. At their trial they all denied firing the fatal shot and were acquitted.

Policeman Owens was survived by his wife and several children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 81rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
