William D. Preston

Sheriff William Preston and Deputy Sheriff Barney Stiel, of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, were shot and killed by two brothers they were attempting to arrest near Dumas.

As Sheriff Preston and several of his deputies approached the suspect's cabin one of the brothers opened fire killing the sheriff instantly. As Deputy Stiel returned fire killing his sheriff's murderer the other suspect opened fire killing him. The other deputies shot and killed his killer and shot and seriously wounded their father as he arrived on the scene firing his rifle at them.

The next morning the suspect's father was seized from the local jail by a mob and hanged from a water tank just outside of town on the Iron Mountain Railroad.

So sorry for the loss of the good Law Enforcement. If laws were tougher and life was worth something besides a few years in prison for taking a life, maybe the prisons would be less full. A person killing someone or causing death or harm to another is more precious than any possession on earth. We do need better law enforcers and better training for all of them. The county officers need to do their job or be fired!!!! In my life since 1994 in Desha Co., I have seen and been a witness and victim of injustice by the County Sheriff and certain deputies. They wanted to make their own laws and had the good ole buddy system. They are buddies with the dope dealers at Pendleton at the Ar. River. They are called to the same drug dealers month after month and never do a thing but tell them to keep the noice down. There are children in 2 of the drug dealers homes. There are 3 drug dealers on the same road which is Miller Lane that is approximately 1/2 mile long. This has been going on for years and has gotten worst than ever in the last 2 years. I cannot go in my yard without smelling marijuana. The noise from the loud radio music, the loud ATV's, the traffic from the dealing, the trespassing on Private Property from these same people and their druggie friends is a constant proplem and disturbance to the community. I am talking about the population of Pendleton being about 100 maybe. This is also the popular Bass TournamentT The druggies and dealers are becoming the law
