Sergeant John Griffin succumbed to injuries suffered when he slipped on the icy stairs at city hall.

Sergeant Griffin had gone to city hall to pick up his paycheck prior to the start of his shift and was walking to the police department at city hall. He was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries four hours later.

Sergeant Griffin had served with the Venice Police Department for 18 years. Sergeant Griffin was a widower and survived by two children and two sisters.
