Posseman Joseph Akin was shot and killed in Bluff, Utah, while attempting to arrest a member of the Piute tribe for murder. Several U.S. Marshals had organized the posse to assist with moving several of the Piute tribe members to a reservation.

Posseman Akin was survived by his wife and child.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 97th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered.
