Deputy Constable Ralph Ellis was shot and killed with his own service weapon as he and another deputy constable searched a residence.

The officers had raided the residence and arrested the occupant for making illegal liquor. Deputy Ellis was guarding the prisoner as the other constable searched the home. The man suddenly grabbed Constable Ellis' weapon and shot fatally shot him.

Deputy Ellis was survived by his wife.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 96th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
