For many years I have thought about that terrible day. You were a wonderful neighbor, mentor, and confidant. You provided support to my mother and her troubled family. Your daughters were my older friends, and in your way, you were a positive male role model in my life. I will never forget when the girls snuck in your room and threw grape stems on you as you slept. I never laughed so hard, and you were the ultimate practical joker. I won't forget the neighborhood BBQs and the peace we all had knowing you were watching out for us.

You were a wonderful human being. All through my young years, my prayers at night included, "I love you good night, JD." Every once in a while, I still say it to honor my hero.

You will never know just how much you impacted my life.
