Sheriff Blum was shot and killed while investigating a report of a drunk and disorderly man. Sheriff Blum was killed near the railroad tracks, not very far from the site of the current jail. Sheriff Blum

Immediately after the murder of Sheriff Blum, his brother was sworn in as the new Sheriff. Sheriff Blum's killer was granted a change of venue to Montgomery County. He was tried, found guilty, sentenced to death, and hung in Montgomery County.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 87th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 87 years.
