Police Officer Andrew Widman was shot and killed after he and other officers responded to a domestic dispute outside a restaurant on Main Street, between Broadway and Hendry Street, at approximately 2:00 am.

As the officers attempted to break up the fight, the male subject produced a 9mm handgun and opened fire, striking Officer Widman in the face. The subject then fled on foot, firing at pursuing officer, who shot and killed him.

Officer Widman had served with the Fort Myers Police Department for just over one year. He became a police officer after serving as a missionary. He is survived by his wife and three children.
