W. Tom Blackburn

Chief of Police Tom Blackburn was shot and killed after responding to a home where a group of drunk men were involved in a large brawl.

When he arrived at the house he was told the trouble was at a nearby home. As he turned to leave to investigate the other house he was shot in the back.

Several officers from Prestonburg responded to the scene and were engaged in a shootout with the suspect, who was fatally wounded.

Chief Blackburn was survived by his wife and several children.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
