City Marshal Bud Wilson was shot and killed and a Chautaugua County Deputy Sheriff was badly wounded by two cousins they attempted to arrest on a warrant for horse stealing in Missouri. A posse apprehended both suspects four days later.

Marshal Wilson was survived by his wife and seven children.
