Deputy Eli Pittman succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained several hours later while attempting to arrest a man he believed to be intoxicated. The man had made previous threats against Deputy Pittman and shot him as he approached.

Deputy Pittman was survived by his wife and two children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 106th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
