Officer Elizabeth Franklin succumbed to injuries suffered one week earlier when she fell from a tower at the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women. She was transported to a local hospital where she remained until succumbing to her injuries.

Officer Franklin had served with the Alabama Department of Corrections for 24 years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you. Both the pain and pride are forever. The reflections left
by your fellow officers show that you were well-respected and cared for and left a positive impact on many lives.
