Officer Mark Bedard succumbed to injuries sustained nine days earlier when he was struck by a patrol car while involved in a foot pursuit.

He and officers from the Minneapolis Police Department had pursued the driver in their vehicles and then on foot after the suspect bailed out. He was then struck as he pursued the suspect into an alley between Irving and James Avenues North.

Officer Bedard had served with the Minneapolis Park Police Department for 12 years. He is survived by his wife and young child.

Mark, I’m sure you heard me tonight telling my neighbor about you. How you were there for me on that domestic off of GVR. How you were there after the explosion off West Broadway, taking peremeter, not needing to do so as your shift was over. I miss you. I’m sorry I couldn’t do more other then yell to the Fire Fighters to hurry, it’s a cop. I’m so sorry I couldn’t do more. My neighbor has your keychain we made for your son. I look forward to a handshake and a smile some day. I’ll see you then.
