Officer Sullivan was accidentally shot and killed when another officer's service revolver from his pocket and discharged. The accident occurred as several officers were speaking in the police station. As one of the officer's stood from his chair his pistol fell and discharged when it struck the ground.

Officer Sullivan had served with the Lexington Police Department for 14 years and was assigned to supervise the Health Department. He was survived by his mother and several brothers.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and fifteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
