Deputy Rhodes and Deputy Victor Cusworth were killed in an automobile accident at approximately 4:00 am while responding to a call of a negligent driver. They were responding down the Seattle Highway, west of Cle Elem, when their patrol car struck the rear of a slow moving hay truck.

Deputy Rhodes had served with the agency for 2 years. He was survived by his wife and child.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 53rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
