Special Officer M.V. Torres was shot and killed while patrolling the railroad yards in Mingus, Texas, during a labor dispute. He was transported to a hospital in Ft. Worth where he was able to give a statement about the shooting before succumbing to his wounds.

No suspects were ever arrested for his murder.

Torres was not married. He was buried in San Antonio, Texas.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 88th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
