Patrolman Jon Birchem was killed in an automobile accident while chasing two speeding cars in Wood County. He lost control of his vehicle on the icy road surface and struck a bridge pillar.
Patrolman Birchem was assigned to the Swanton Post and had served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for one year. He is survived by his wife, son, and parents.
