Patrolman Bickett was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect that fled from hotel he had just raided. After a foot chase, Patrolman Bickett caught up with the suspect, but was shot and killed while taking him into custody. The suspect and another man were arrested hours later.

Patrolman Bickett had served with the Kansas City Police Department for 6 years.
