Trooper Paul Barry was killed when his patrol struck the back of an unoccupied, parked dump truck in the breakdown lane of northbound I-495 near exit 15 in Wrentham.

A citizen who was certified as an EMT traveling behind Trooper Barry immediately stopped and provided medical care to him. The citizen was able to restore a pulse until another trooper and medical personnel arrived. Trooper Barry was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Trooper Barry had served with the Massachusetts State Police for six years. He is survived by his wife, three sons, four daughters, parents, brother, and sister.
