Deputy Constable James Casey was shot and killed after arresting a suspect for public intoxication and creating a disturbance.

As the suspect was being escorted to jail, the man produced a handgun and shot Deputy Constable Casey in the chest, killing him.

The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later. He was convicted of Deputy Constable Casey's murder and executed.

Deputy Constable Casey had served with the Calaveras County Constable's Office for 5 years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 107th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
