Sergeant Henry Prendes was shot and killed after responding to a domestic violence call.

Sergeant Prendes and several officers responded to a report of a man beating a woman with a stick in the front yard, and breaking windows on vehicles and a house on Feather Duster Court. When Sergeant Prendes and other officers arrived, they located the woman, who was the suspect's girlfriend. Her mother and her brother were with her, but the suspect had gone inside the home.

Sergeant Prendes approached the door of the home when the suspect opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle, striking him. Sergeant Prendes fell on the sidewalk, but officers could not reach him because the suspect continued firing with his weapon. The suspect fired approximately 50 rounds and kept the officers pinned behind cars and walls.

The suspect then went upstairs and fired down upon the officers. Despite the barrage of gunfire, police officers tried to rescue Sergeant Prendes. A member of Gang Unit heard the call and responded to the scene with a rifle. He was able to shoot and kill the suspect and help rescue Sergeant Prendes. That officer was wounded in the leg during the rescue and exchange of gunfire.

Sergeant Prendes had served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 14 years. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters.

Henry was a great guy and funny as heck. He trained me in 97 and I considered him a friend. We weren't really close, but when we'd run into each other at work it was always a warm reunion full of laughs. What a great guy.

The depth of the faith in Christ Henry and his family have was demonstrated in the strength displayed at his funeral. While his loss is a tragedy, our Lord has used the example of his life for so much good. I am one small person and Henry's faith continues to inspire me to walk close to Jesus and let Him guide me to serve the public by serving God first. Thank you for helping me to keep my focus on the Lord, Henry. May God continually keep your family close and bless them. Miss you bro.
