Lieutenant John Berry was killed in a warehouse fire at the corner of 13th Street and Mulberry Alley.

He was assisting at the scene of the fire when a wall collapsed, killing him. Eighteen other people were killed in the fire.

Lieutenant Berry had served with the Pittsburgh Police Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and other relatives.
