Officer Henry Berry died from gunshot wounds suffered thirteen days before when he was shot by a man he had caught trying to rob a florist shop at 8th and Parrish streets.

A suspect was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. He was executed on February 26, 1940.

Officer Berry had served with the agency for 11 years. He was survived by his three children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 74th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
