Officer Robert Cox suffered a fatal injury to the heart after a violent struggle with a burglary suspect.

Officer Cox responded to a burglary in progress. When he arrived, he spotted the suspect, who fled. After a foot pursuit Officer Cox was able to overtake the suspect, who put up a violent struggle, striking Officer Cox in the chest, before being taken into custody. Officer Cox then returned to the station house where he collapsed. He remained in a coma for almost three months and died as a result.

Officer Cox is survived by his wife and three children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 35th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever Your family is in my heart's embrace. Rest In Peace.
