Officer Ramon Rios suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after he and other officers were involved in a struggle with three juvenile suspects on 5th Street.

The officers had responded to the location to investigate reports that a newspaper deliveryman's vehicle had been damaged by the three juveniles.

When the officers attempted to question the three, they became belligerent and then resisted when the officers attempted to arrest them. Officer Rios collapsed after the three were taken into custody. The other officers immediately began CPR until Officer Rios was transported to South East Arizona Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Officer Rios had served in law enforcement for 16 years. He had previously served with the Cochise County Sheriff's Department and Bisbee Police Department.

Officer Rios is survived by his wife, four children, parents, eight sisters, and two brothers.

Ray, I went by the DPD today and was so overwhelmed I had to stay in the van for a minute before I got off. Seems the memorial is coming up pretty fast now. Nothing stopping us now Babe. So so happy, as I know you must be. Xavi is enjoying his internship and I know it must have broke his heart the other day to have to ride in Car #3, but we raised him right and so he put his head up and thought of the many many good things people are telling him about you..his FAV line is "YOU RAY'S KID.....WELL YOU GOT SOME PRETTY BIG SHOES TO FILL." He seems to know exactly what he wants and as Gilbert told me yesterday if he has the same heart Ray did he will make a dam good cop...so many good things said about you it makes so much sense we have such kind strong loving kids. Aaron will be heading to Tucson to continue to fly...watch out world! The girls well as you can see they are doing very well for themselves. All the kids miss you so much more everyday, never thinking it would be possible but it is. We love you Ray....Watch out for the kids ok and for me cuz I'll be pretty lonely without them around....Love you
