Officer Jackie Pierce was killed in a single vehicle crash on US 79.
The officer was driving a department van from the agency's central office in Pine Bluff to the Mississippi County Work Release Center in Luxora. He had just picked up food items and payroll checks from the central office when the accident occurred.
Officer Pierce had served with the Arkansas Department of Correction for 8 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
