Officer Charles Swinney was shot and killed on Knox Street while patrolling the area's business district.

A struggle ensued when he confronted two suspicious men and one of the men shot him. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Swinney was able to identify the suspects before dying. The suspects were both arrested and convicted of his murder.

Officer Swinney was survived by his wife.

Even as you were dying you made sure your killers identity was known to fellow officers. This helped them get your killer not only off the streets but helped protect others from him. I wish the ending was different, with you surviving. A hero to the end. thank you for your service.
