Constable Rhodes was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man wanted for stealing hogs. The constable spotted the man trying to hid behind some bushes alongside a road. When he ordered the man to come out the suspect opened fire with a rifle, mortally wounding him.

Constable Rhodes had served with the agency for 3 years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 113th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
