Special Agent Lee Hitchcock was killed as a result of a mortar attack on the city of Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam.

Agent Hitchcock had been assigned to Vietnam. His job was to conduct criminal investigations as a result of the large presence of United States Air Force personnel who were stationed there during the Vietnam War.

Special Agent Hitchcock was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device. He had served with the Office of Special Investigations for two years and was survived by his wife and parents.

As Base Dental Surgeon at Pleiku AB 1967-68, I was fortunate to know Special Agent Hitchcock - and privileged to visit with him a couple of weeks before the tragic night of September. 10th. His quarters at that time were in a well-fortified, elevated, house in the city of Pleiku. Although I was unaware of his mission, rank, or branch of service, Lee was the perfect example of a dedicated, loyal American soldier in a war zone. He was a true Patriot, and certainly deserving of the Bronze Star with"V" for Valor.
