Daniel J. Hancock

Agent Daniel Hancock was killed in an automobile accident while he and another agent pursued a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal whiskey in Dougherty County, near Moultrie, Georgia.

The other agent, who was driving at the time, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. The suspects that were being pursued were arrested later on by federal agents.

Agent Hancock had served with the Georgia Department of Revenue for 12 years.

Mr. Hancock will be remembered. I may be the youngest person here who remembers him -- he worked closely with my father, and his wife was a close friend of my mother, and baby-sat me when I was about 3 years old, around 1960. When Mr. Hancock died, I was about 5 years old and realized for the first time that law enforcement officers put their lives on the line daily.
