Patrolman Benedict was accidentally shot and killed while investigating a burglary. With his gun drawn he slipped on some ice, causing his weapon to discharge, striking him in the head.

Patrolman Benedict had been with the agency for ten years.

ODMP is participating in the CrowdRise Giving Tower Holiday Challenge, an annual fundraising competition that runs from November 24th through January 7th and raises millions of dollars for charity.

The Challenge goes through the entire holiday season, including #GivingTuesday, and is designed to help organizations of all sizes gain awareness, recognition, and money for their cause.
