William J. Bender

Deputy Sheriff William Bender was killed in an automobile accident while en route to setup a roadblock at Highway 37 and Highway 309.

The roadblock was being setup as a result of an escape from a nearby jail.

Deputy Bender was survived by his wife, daughter, and son. His son, Trooper William R. Bender, was struck and killed in the line of duty on November 20th, 1982, while serving with the Ohio Highway Patrol.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

On today, the 50th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army during World War II. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
