Deputy Guns was killed in an automobile accident while en route to the local hospital to pick up a man for questioning. The subject had been wounded in an earlier knife fight.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Washington Avenue in the city of Yakima. Deputy Guns' department vehicle collided with another vehicle.

Deputy Guns was survived by his wife, daughter, brother, and sister.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 65th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
