L. Elmer Ferguson

Marshal Elmer Ferguson was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for carrying a concealed handgun and for threatening to kill him. The man produced a gun during the arrest and shot and killed Marshal Ferguson. An angry mob formed; chased the suspect a short distance and shot him several times.

Marshal Ferguson was survived by his wife and children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 108th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I was saddened to see that Christmas Day is the eow for so many, many officers. Rest In Peace.
