Patrolman Gibbons died of injuries he received when he was thrown from his police horse. The incident occurred when he was on horse back patrol in the Bronx. Patrolman Gibbons was taken to St. Francis Hospital where it was discovered that his skull was fractured. He died ten days later from his injuries.

Patrolman Gibbons was survived by his wife. He was assigned to the 123rd Street Station.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 102nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
