Officers Andy Begay and Roy Stanley were shot and killed while investigating a party where alcohol was being used.

Their bodies were later dumped in a patrol vehicle, transported to a remote location near Lake Powell and set on fire.

Two suspects were convicted of the murders and sentenced to prison.

Officer Begay had served with the Navajo Division of Public Safety for 12 years, and was assigned to the Kayenta District. He is survived by his wife and four children.

there are times that i remember saying "dad, i wanna b jst like u" and here i am today working in a place i kno will do some ppl plenty of good.....u hve given me lots to thnk about and many questions have been answered whn i kneel and pray for guidence....its as if u are standing over me and talking me thru life.....u have heard from ur oldest granddaughter and i sure am happy that u are there to watch over her and her little family and yet ur grandson needs ur help too....i love u very much dad and i kno that ur love is all around us....thank u for everything and wat ever u have to share in the near future.......again, thank u for all u have done for us........
