Sergeant Foster and another Sergeant responded to a dispute between a bartender and a group of sailors at a bar on Water Street in Manhattan. When they arrived one of the sailors assaulted the other Sergeant. When Sergeant Foster came to his aid, he was stabbed by one of the other sailors. He was removed to the hospital, where he died two days later from the wound. |
