Officer McCray was shot and killed when he and several other officers went to a home to investigate a shooting. Officer McCray was shot in the neck as the officers forced the door open to go inside. The suspect then barricaded himself in the house but eventually surrendered after the house was riddled with bullets and set on fire.

Officer McCray had been with the agency for 26 years. He was survived by his wife.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
