Detective Louis Schroeder and Detective Augustus Long were shot and killed during a payroll robbery by several men at the New York Central Terminal in Toledo, Ohio. The suspects shot the two detectives after robbing a ticket agent of more then $10,000.

Two of the suspects were apprehended. One of them was sentenced to death and the second was sentenced to life in prison.

Detective Schroeder was survived by his wife and two daughters.
