Sergeant Shannon Russell suffered a fatal heart attack during physical training exercises at the department's training facility on South Rita Ranch Road.

Other officers administered CPR until he was transported to Kino Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Russell had been employed with the Pima County Sheriff's Department for 12 years, and was a member of the agency's emergency response team. He was posthumously promoted to Corrections Sergeant. He is survived by his father.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
